School Board Cancels 2020 Bond Election

The 2020 Bond election was originally called for May 2, 2020, but on March 18, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a proclamation allowing political subdivisions to postpone their May 2 special elections to November 3, 2020.

“Due to the many uncertainties that still exist related to COVID-19 for our community and Burnet CISD, the Board of Trustees and the Administration feel canceling the bond election for now is the appropriate decision. This upcoming school year will be like no other any of us have ever experienced, and all of our energies and resources will be focused on how to keep our students and staff safe while providing access to quality instruction for students either in-person or remotely,” said Superintendent Keith McBurnett.

Even with the cancellation of the bond election, the Board of Trustees and the Administration are still committed to proactively planning for the future. The District will continue to study, review, and discuss facility projects that will accommodate a growing student enrollment, address school safety, and enhance the educational experience of Burnet CISD students.

The Board of Trustee election, originally scheduled for May 2, 2020, was also moved to November 3, 2020. By law, the Board of Trustee election must proceed as scheduled. There are two places on the ballot, Place 3 and Place 7. The following candidates will be on the ballot:

Place 3
Suzanne Brown, Incumbent

Place 7
Mark Kincaid, Incumbent
Tricia Carr
