SPACE DAWG team members Jacey Huston, Will Rundzieher, Nicholai Rowland, Matthew Thrane and Bridget Bristow spent the year researching how to send food to space, talking to chefs, food scientists, past astronauts, and watching as many YouTube videos about space food as possible before finalizing their winning recipe that placed in the Nation's top 10 before blasting off and winning the entire competition.
Chef Mike Erickson received the results from the contest on Friday, May 7th telling the students they finished in 7th place. Little did they know that they would be surprised today with a zoom call from HUNCH culinary project manager Allison Westover inviting them to the culinary convention this summer and announcing their National Championship. Ms. Westover stated that the recipe will most likely be processed and sent to the International Space Station in the next 6 to 9 months. Along with the surprise news, the students were congratulated by their families, administrators, student supporters, the BHS Drumline, Barney Bulldog, and even cheerleader and BCISD Board member Robby Robertson.
