Attendance Credit Election Proposition A Passes

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and administration, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our community for their support in the passage of the Burnet CISD Attendance Credit Election.

The passage of Proposition A will allow Burnet CISD to continue to make its mandatory recapture payment as it always has, by purchasing attendance credits from the Texas Education Agency. This is the same method chosen by 100% of school districts required to make recapture payments.

The District is projected to send $4 million back to the state this year to be redistributed to other school districts as part of the Robin Hood school finance system. Although I do not agree with the current school finance system, this election was not a referendum on Robin Hood; rather, it was a forced choice on how to make all future recapture payments as well as the $4 million recapture payment this year.

The Attendance Credit Election is a one-time, statutory requirement. With the passage of Proposition A, Burnet CISD will not be required to ever hold this election again.

The Canvassing Resolution that was approved by the Board of Trustees at the October 18th meeting is attached below.
